Hi Lohith,
First, do you have kannada font in your phone. Try opening the prajavani paper http://prajavani.net. If you are able to read the paper you have kannada font, then you have already kannada font installed in your phone. Then you follow the step 1 given in FAQ page of this site.
If instead you see square boxes in Prajavani paper, you should root the phone and install the kannada font.

Hi…
I want to develop an application…which uses grid view populated with buttons…i am facing difficult to setTypeface for the gridview children…i want to fetch indian language characteres as button text…i am new to android…pl..help me in this regard…
When you are writing the adapter for the gridview, you should use a method called getView. In this method, you can access individual members using findViewById. Then you can use setTypFace for these childviews.
To display Indian characters, you can get their unicode values (from sites like omniglot) and set that unicode value for the button.

You have to do some settings operations. HTC desire I think has Android 2.1. So it will not have kannada font. You should root the phone and install kannada font. Then go to settings, select Language and keyboard. Select kannada keyboard and then Select the input method also as kannada keyboard. I have mentioned steps in https://hegdeapps.wordpress.com/kannada-hindi-keyboard-faq/ page.
